A 20 minute consultation meeting is a time for us to chat and see how we might work together. It gives you a chance decide if you want to start counselling sessions with me, or keep looking for another counsellor who is a better fit for you.

What Happens in a Free Consultation ?

When we meet, I will start some important information about counselling in general, such as confidentiality, and I'll explain my roles and responsibilities as a counsellor. Confidentiality, by the way, starts the moment we meet. I will also explain what kind of counselling I do such as Cognitive Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy or communication skills training.

I will ask you what you hope to get out of counselling. You won't need to explain all the details, but if you let me know what topics you are interested in working on, I can tell you what direction I would take in our sessions. As we talk, you will probably be able to tell if my approch would be a good fit for you. If you need a counsellor with a specialty that I don't have, I will be glad to refer you to someone who has the right training for your topic.

Maybe the most important benefit of a free consultation is that you can get a feel of how we relate (or dont) with each other. Just like when you meet anyone for the first time, you walk away with a sense of how their personality might be right or wrong for working with you. Finding a counsellor who can really understand you is one of the best predictors of a positive outcome. So, it might be me, or someone else. That is up to you.

I look forward to meeting you.
